A Voice for Northport: Shedding Light on The Human Toll of Teck’s Pollution

I’m so grateful for the compassion and care KXLY 4 News Now reporter Derek Deis and Director of News Operation Brian Neale showed while working on this important story about Northport and the Upper Columbia River. For decades, Teck Smelter released staggering amounts of heavy metal toxins into our water and air, but what often gets overlooked is the devastating impact on the people who live here.

This story gives a voice to those who’ve suffered life-altering health issues caused by Teck’s actions—stories that go far beyond the statistics. It’s a much-needed spotlight on the human toll and the generational effects that continue to this day.

  1. Jamie, your doing an excellent job.
My daughter got sick when she was 6 years old with a kidney disease that almost killed her. Lost my wife of Dementia almost 2 yrs ago and she lived there all her life.
We lost her great gma, her grandpa, her mother and grandmother all to Dementia. And alot of friends to weird different old diseases. I lived in Northport for 28 years and watched alot of good people die, and even some I watched grow up die of Cancer, Brain tumors, kidney and heart disease, and more.
It’s about time someone takes the responsibility and man up to the toll of the human lives lost before more have to die.
    Sincerely Yours, Mike Kyllo
